The protocol underneath isn't the hard part — that's decades old and solid. The hard part is making sure the room stays playable when somebody's setup isn't. That's what BACKLINE adds.
Before you can play in a room, your connection gets checked for jitter and packet loss — the two things that actually break a jam. If something's off, you're told exactly what to fix, in plain language ("plug in with a cable," "put on headphones") — never just "no." It's mandatory, for everyone, every time. No skipping it, not even for the host.
Every room has a host, roles, and rules — who can mute, who can kick, how many people per instrument. It's a contract your band agrees to, not a free-for-all chat room that happens to carry audio. Health is measured live, in the open, the whole session.
Jams are open and free — the hook, and where reputation lives. Rehearsals are your band's private room, built for the same three or four people showing up week after week. Same technical floor, different purpose.
